Run Date: Sunday 26th September 2021

A. Staggered Rolling Start

Due to Covid-19, we have arranged for a staggered rolling start rather than the mass start of prior years. This is to help maintain social distancing at the start, during the run and at the finish.

The staggered start times are as follows

Expected completion times Start time

Less than 80 minutes 8.30am

80 – 90 minutes 8.40am

90 – 95 minutes 8.50am

95-100 minutes 9.00am

100 – 110 minutes 9.10am

110 – 120 minutes 9.20am

120+ minutes 9.30am

We request that runners arrive at Beacon Park no more than 10 minutes prior to their start-time. Runners should select their start time according to their own estimation of run time for the 10 miles. For example, if you expect to complete the 10 miles in a time between 95-100 minutes, then your start time is 9.00am.

If you think that you are likely to finish the Race in one of the first three male or female places, it is essential that you start at 8.30am.

B. Run timing system

As in previous years, runners will receive their runner number incorporating a timing chip. These will be sent to runner’s postal address by Royal Mail one or two weeks prior to the event. If your address has changed since you registered for C2C, please update your details on the booking system (see FAQ for help). The timing chip is activated when the runner passes over the starting line under the starting arch and the finish time is recorded when the runner passes over the finish line under the finish arch. Therefore, each person’s run time is personalised and it does not matter what time they start.

C. Coach transport from Tamworth to Beacon Park, Lichfield

We are providing coach transport from Tamworth to Beacon Park so that runners have the option of parking in Tamworth. This facility was available on line at a cost of £5, but booking is now closed.

For those who have booked a place on the coach, coaches will depart from [The Jolly Sailor coach park in Tamworth B78 3JJ] at the following times to coordinate with the staggered start times above.

Runners to arrive at the coaches from: 7.50am 8.00am 8.10am 8.20am 8.30am 8.40am 8.50am

Coach leaves Tamworth at: 8.00am 8.10am 8.20am 8.30am 8.40am 8.50am 9.00am

Coach arrives Beacon Park Lichfield at: 8.20am 8.30am 8.40am 8.50am 9.00am 9.10am 9.20am

If you think that you are likely to finish the Race in one of the first three male or female places, it is essential that you arrive at 7.50am, to catch the 8am coach.

Anyone travelling by coach must wear a face covering (bring your own). Runners will be checked off against a list, onto which their race number will be entered.

C. Car parking

Nearer the day, Runners using the coach service, will be notified individually where to park in Tamworth.

For the rest of you, links to maps showing all car parks in Tamworth and Lichfield are listed below. Click here for Tamworth Car Parks: Car parks | Tamworth Borough Council. Click here to view the latest information on the location of Lichfield City Centre Parking.

D. Key Drop

Covid-19 presents additional challenges for managing a bag drop with issues such as handling of belongings and queue management at the start and finish. Furthermore, additional logistical issues arise as a consequence of the staggered start. Nevertheless, we recognise that runners will most likely have need for some sort of bag drop and therefore we will operate a Key Drop (minimal items such as keys, wallet, phone). We will operate two collection points:

1) For those using the coach transfer service from Tamworth to Beacon Park, we will collect keys before you board the coach. You will be provided with a small sealable jiffy bag on to which we will write your runner number and into which you can place your car keys.

2) There will also be a Key Drop in Beacon Park. This will be located at the Bunkers Hill car park entrance to Beacon Park.

We request that runners minimise the use of the key drop as far as possible. We would appreciate if runners can make their own arrangements for their belongings.

With the staggered start and arrival times being 10 minutes prior to start time, runners will not be kept waiting around and therefore the need for extra clothes is reduced.

D. Key Return

Once the run is completed, Key Drop bags will be collected at the finishing area in Tamworth Castle Grounds. Run Numbers must be worn to facilitate appropriate identification of each Key Drop bag so that it can be returned to the appropriate Runner.

E. Trophies and prizes

Trophies will be awarded as follows:

First Male and First Female Runners presentations will be made on the day, as per Individual presentations below.

First Male Team, First Female Team and First Mixed Team. Because of the problems associated with the staggered start, team trophies will be presented after the event.

Due to the complications of a staggered start, Team Presentations will be after the event.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

First, Second and Third Male and Female Runner presentations will be made on the day, as per Individual Presentations below.

Individual Presentations: will be made in the Tamworth Castle Grounds (20 minutes after the third male and female runners have finished).

Due to the staggered start, it could be the case that if an accomplished Runner arrives late at the start, his or her finishing time could be faster than one of the first 3 male or female runners.

To allow for this, there will be a 20 minute cut off time, as above.

The timing chip is activated when a Runner passes over the starting line under the starting arch and the finish time is recorded when he or she passes over the finish line under the finish arch. Therefore, each run time is personalised and reflect the time that that person actually took to complete the course.

There will be an area in the finishing compound where the 6 winning Runners will held, socially distanced until the presentation, a volunteer wearing a face visor and gloves, will host them untill this happens. Trophies and prizes, will be presented by a volunteer wearing a face mask and gloves. No physical contact will be made during this procedure.

F. Goody bags. T-shirts and Medals

At the finish, there will be an open air Covid secure finishing enclosure, that will allow runners to queue 2 meters apart.

These aisles will be expanded or contracted by volunteers to control queue sizes.

There will be a large marquee in the finishing enclosure, along the front edge of the roof of which, will be signs showing the sizes of the Souvenir Race Shirts ordered. (The size that you ordered will be on the run number that you will be wearing. i.e. S, M, L, etc).

Under each of these signs, will be a number of Pre Packed paper goodie bags, with the souvenir shirt size clearly marked on the front of each one, so it is essential that you look out for your size. The shirt size that you ordered will be printed on your Race number, but there will be stewards wearing face masks and gloves to help with this. Your Goody bag will contain your Souvenir Race Shirt, your Medal, an energy bar, a Race Book and any Sponsor donated items.

The medal and t-shirt commemorate the peculiarities of 2020 caused by the pandemic. The medal shows the 2020 date as this was the original event date and the medals had already been produced before Covid-19 necessitated postponement. We hope you will understand. The t-shirts have been re-designed to record that the 2020 event was postponed to 2021.

G. Toilets

There will be toilets at the start in Beacon Park and Tamworth Castle Grounds. Hand sanitiser units will be positioned adjacent to the toilets for cleaning of hands.

H. Water stations

Water stations will be located as follows:

1. Beginning of Sandy Lane (3 miles)

2. Near Hopwas School (6 miles)

3. Wigginton Park (9 miles)

4. Finish at Tamworth Castle Grounds, where you will able to help yourself to a free banana.

Except at the finish, there are signs to inform the distance to next Water Station. (100 yards to the Water Station).

Due to Covid-19 safeguarding measures, water will need to be taken by self-service and will be in bottles. Volunteers manning the water stations will wear face coverings and gloves.
